After a Transfer
- Stay with your loved one until you are sure that he/she is situated safely and comfortably.
- Return all equipment to its original location.
- If a wheelchair or commode was used, move it out of the way of your
loved one’s bed to keep the room free from clutter and safe for you to walk around.
- If you used a lumbar support belt or a transfer belt, return it to its original location so that they can be found quickly the next time.
- Return the cordless phone to its docking station so that it remains charged and in an easily accessible location.
- Keep a notebook with information that will assist you in the future.
- Time(s) of day where your loved one is strongest and/or most cooperative.
- Hands-on lessons you have learned for making future transfers easier emotionally and physically for both you and your loved one.
- Questions for your physician, physical therapist, and/or occupational therapist regarding transfers.
- Equipment needs
